Smith's Cove, Nova Scotia Lighthouse

Even after I said we would walk to it, the dogs decided against another lighthouse after their Peggy's Cove adventure, so off I went alone once more. The trail to the Smith's Cove Lighthouse is pretty much like this the whole way. You can find it from the many signs along the highway and there are a few places to pull off, park your vehicle and hoof it the rest of the way. At most it would likely be a fifteen minute walk.

Upon entering the area you will be greeted by a well manicured garden area along the path.

If entering from the back way you will see a staircase like this. It is pretty easy to climb as long as you are sure to watch your footing.

There is great views from atop the cliff it sits on too.

The signs are well marked and let you know the layout of the area.

Along with some knowledge along the way.

The trail to it does run alongside a steep cliff, so make sure to keep the kiddos away from the side when visiting. As well as yourself.

And if you turn from the above path, this is your view. A pretty little spot with a well maintained lighthouse sitting overlooking the water. A bunch of nice benches are scattered around to allow you to rest and take in the view too.

You can see a view like this from across the water with homes in the trees.

You can't drive to it, but you can get close.

You also get wide open views of the water with sailboats from time to time.

A sign you will see along the path to the lighthouse telling you the distance.

Another sign you may see on the way there to ensure you are going the right way.

And after the signs, the short walk, and steering clear of the cliff, you will come across the Smith's Cove Lighthouse along the shores of Nova Scotia near the Digby area.

My Overall Verdict of the Smith's Cove Lighthouse

It is a pretty little spot and the lighthouse has been fixed up really well. It is a great area to get some exercise and then relax to take in the views. Well worth the detour to see it if you are in the area.

The only thing you have to watch out for are four wheelers going down the path too as you walk there. It is a little tight in spots and you are pushed off to the side. But the drivers I encountered were respectful.

If in the area take a stroll and give the Smith's Cove Lighthouse a look.
